In our former Christian private school, we read books that foster Christian character traits every Friday.  Kids really enjoy the books and learn about Christian characters through read-aloud time.  Stories are really cute and easy to understand for kids in early elementary levels.  They listened attentively to these stories with Christian character themes, and kept asking if they can read more.  They simply love Friday read-aloud time!

Books that Teach Christian Character for 3-8 Year Old Kids

Adventures of Adam Raccoon by Glen Keane

One of the stories that they love is Adam Raccoon on his adventures throughout the Mater’s Wood!

The adventures of Adam Raccoon take place in the heart of the Mater’s Wood. Adam Raccoon, along with his animal friends, find both danger and beauty in the woods filled with streams, waterfalls, and tall trees. Kids will easily relate to Adam who is playful, curious, a little mischievous yet tender-hearted. Whenever Adam gets himself into trouble by going on his own way, King Aren comes to the rescue which teaches the Christian character of helping others.

I have purchased individual books instead of a set like this one, but there is an entire set of Adam Raccoon books sold online.

Jerome's Journey by Rebecca Sanderson: Christian Virtue of Patience

If you are familiar with Lamplighter Kids Stories podcast, they published a new book, “Jerome’s Journey”.  We listen to Lamplighters Kids Stories and each story is filled with Momo Macsquarrel’s obsession toward acorns and of course one important Christian virtue to remember.

Kids love listening to these stories from Momo, and Jerome’s Journey teaches us the virtue of patience when Jerome the hermit crab grows out of his shell, searching for a new shell.

Storytime: Christian Character-building stories for children

Recently, I found another wonderful book that reinforces Christian characters. It teaches about kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity as well as honey, loyalty and more. It has 30 stories inside the book, and our kids love the stories.  They always ask me to read more during their bedtime story.

One amazing story is “Cornelius Jewel” and it teaches us how much more precious is her children compared to all the jewels that others regard her wealth and how important they, the children, are to God and to their parents.
